The Planning, Research, and Statistics Schedule Officers of the National Youth Service Corps have been directed to strengthen data integrity, improve monitoring systems, and enhance evaluation frameworks across the scheme's operations.
The charge was delivered at the 2026 NYSC Planning, Research and Statistics Schedule Officers' Workshop in Abuja, where Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director General of the NYSC, addressed participants through a representative. His address was delivered on his behalf by the Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Chief Chinwendu Chukwu.
Nafiu described the workshop as a vital platform for reflection, knowledge sharing, and strategic repositioning, stressing that accurate and timely data remain critical to sound policy formulation and effective decision making within the scheme.
He reminded officers that their role extended beyond routine documentation, describing them as the think tank of the scheme and urging them to engage in research activities that would advance NYSC's ideals and operations. "As PRS Schedule Officers, you are custodians of the Scheme's records and archival materials at State Secretariats. You must safeguard these facilities with a high sense of responsibility," he stated.
The Director General assured participants that management would continue to prioritise capacity building through training and incentives to ensure optimal performance, adding that PRS functions would be fully integrated into the scheme's overall strategic framework. "We will continue to provide an enabling environment that promotes optimal performance and operational efficiency. All PRS Officers are therefore enjoined to remain dedicated, innovative, and proactive in the discharge of their duties," he added.
Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Nura Umar, noted that the workshop aligns with the Director General's policy thrust of building a resilient workforce. He confirmed that experts would deliver lectures aimed at strengthening participants' professional capacity and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to their assigned duties.
The workshop drew PRS Schedule Officers from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
