The National Youth Service Corps has declared that prospective corps members without a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank will not be mobilised for national service, as the scheme intensifies efforts to eliminate certificate fraud from its recruitment process.
The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made this known during his keynote address at the 2026 Batch B Pre Mobilisation Workshop held in Abuja, themed "Strengthening Institutional Accountability and Compliance in the NYSC Mobilisation Process for Effective Service Delivery."
Nafiu urged Corps Producing Institutions to sensitise their students and enforce strict compliance with the Federal Government directive, warning that the requirement was non negotiable.
"When we work in synergy, we ease the path for our Prospective Corps Members, ensuring that their transition from student to national service is smooth, transparent, and credible," Nafiu stated.
"Let us be bold in confronting the obstacles before us and creative in fashioning solutions that will stand the test of time. Let us build a more accountable, transparent, and efficient mobilisation process for the benefit of all," he added.
The Director General stressed that the mobilisation process was a shared responsibility, calling on regulatory bodies, security agencies, and relevant ministries to provide policy guidance, capacity building, and enforcement support.
In her address, the NYSC Director of Corps Mobilisation, Mrs Rachel Ideawor, described the workshop as a critical platform for strengthening collaboration between the scheme, Corps Producing Institutions, and other stakeholders.
Ideawor acknowledged progress made in improving the mobilisation process but noted that further work was needed across the entire mobilisation value chain.
"I urge our Student Affairs Officers to approach their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, ensuring that the information provided accurately reflects the true profiles of Prospective Corps Members," Ideawor noted.
The workshop was attended by 266 Student Affairs Officers drawn from Corps Producing Institutions nationwide, alongside representatives from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, Federal Ministry of Education, NERD, and SIDMACH Technologies.
