During the passing out ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members in Sokoto State, two corps members were celebrated for outstanding community development efforts while twenty four of their colleagues faced sanctions.
The State Coordinator, Usman Yakubu Yaro, disclosed that eight corps members would repeat their service year, while 16 others had their service extended following various infractions committed during the exercise, ranging from absenteeism to outright abscondment. Yaro reiterated the scheme's firm stance on discipline, warning that acts of truancy would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The two recognised corps members received the Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar Award for their impactful contributions to the living standards of their host communities. The Bank of Industry and other institutions also supported corps members with business development plans and enterprises during the service year.
Yaro urged the outgoing corps members to maximise the skills and entrepreneurship knowledge acquired during the service year, stressing that securing white collar jobs is increasingly challenging. He also cautioned them against night travel, advising them to seek refuge in safe locations such as NYSC lodges, security formations, military barracks, police stations, or traditional rulers' houses when necessary.
The coordinator highlighted the deployment of corps members to rural communities in line with the scheme's policy, noting that medical personnel were posted to rural areas to address shortfalls in health personnel and assisted thousands of residents through various health outreaches. A high percentage of corps members were also posted to teach in schools as part of NYSC's commitment to the state's educational development.
Yaro expressed appreciation to Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his sustained commitment to the payment of state allowances to corps members, and to the Sultan of Sokoto for his continued backing of youth focused initiatives and the scheme as a whole.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of the service year, with a charge on corps members to uphold the ideals of discipline, patriotism, and national service and to remain good ambassadors of the scheme and their families.
