Obafemi Awolowo University has beaten the Federal University of Technology, Akure by 107 points to 62 in the 2026 DUEL University Showdown, a STEM academic competition that brought together university students to contest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

OAU took control of the contest from the early stages, building a lead through speed and accuracy in answering questions and sustaining it through consistent performance across all segments of the competition. Their margin of 45 points over FUTA at the final count reflected a team that arrived well prepared and executed under pressure.

FUTA, regarded as a strong academic institution given its technology focused mandate, entered the contest with competitive expectations and showed moments of resilience during the encounter. However, they were unable to match OAU's pace in the critical rounds where quick thinking and precision in STEM subjects proved decisive.

The contest drew attention beyond the two Institutions, with observers noting that competitions of this kind are becoming increasingly important in Nigerian University culture as platforms for intellectual engagement, institutional pride, and the recognition of student talent in technical disciplines.

For OAU, the result adds to a growing record in inter University academic competition. For FUTA, the performance demonstrated a commitment to engaging at the highest level of academic rivalry despite the defeat.
