Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has begun preparations for the 2025/2026 Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme, organising an orientation programme for National Diploma I students ahead of their industrial attachment.

The programme, coordinated by the Institution's Directorate of SIWES, focused on familiarising students with the objectives of the scheme, workplace ethics, attachment procedures, and the assessment process that follows training completion.

Deputy Rector Dr G. O. Oyeleke declared the orientation open on behalf of Rector Alhaji Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi, urging students to approach the exercise seriously and describing SIWES as a core component of technical and vocational education.

Oyeleke noted that the scheme offers practical exposure that complements classroom learning, helping students build the professional skills, discipline, and experience needed to excel after graduation.

Mr J. A. Fadeji, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocol, coordinated the session and guided participants through the day's proceedings.

A representative of the Industrial Training Fund's ILPO Ibadan Area Office briefed students on SIWES guidelines and outlined their responsibilities before, during, and after attachment, offering practical advice on adapting to workplace environments and building professional relationships.

Students were encouraged to show commitment, punctuality, integrity, and willingness to learn throughout their attachment, qualities organisers said would strengthen both academic performance and future employability.

Dr D. T. Alaje stressed the importance of discipline and professionalism at attachment locations, advising students to respect organisational rules, uphold ethical standards, and represent the Polytechnic positively. He added that students' conduct during SIWES often shapes how employers perceive both the individual and the Institution.

Mr Tayo Folajin took participants through the SIWES defence process, detailing documentation, report, and presentation requirements expected on completion of training, and urged students to keep accurate logbooks and prepare comprehensive reports.

Director of SIWES Barrister Lawrence Aboderin delivered closing remarks on behalf of the Rector, encouraging students to approach the exercise with dedication and describing SIWES as a key platform bridging theoretical instruction and practical workplace experience.

SIWES is a national scheme that exposes tertiary students to real life working environments, strengthens technical competence, and prepares them for the labour market ahead of graduation. Through the orientation, the Polytechnic said it continues to reinforce industry based learning for its students.
