Pan Atlantic University and NNPC The Centre for Media and Communication Research at Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, will co host a two day symposium on energy and environmental communication with the NNPC Foundation on June 10 and 11, 2026, at the university's main campus.
The Director of the Centre for Media and Communication Research, Professor Nelson Okorie, announced the event on Tuesday, describing it as the 2nd NNPC Foundation Symposium on Energy and Environmental Communication and a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of the NNPC Foundation, which serves as the CSR arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
Okorie stated that the symposium was designed to advance sustainable environmental communication among key stakeholders drawn from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
"In the realm of media studies, environmental communication is essential for mitigating issues affecting climate change and environmental health across the globe. Scholars agree that environmental communication is a catalyst for promoting environmental adaptation, conservation, and biodiversity in most modern societies," he stated.
Beyond academic discourse, the event is expected to build a network of development experts aligned with the Federal Government's environmental sustainability targets and broader global sustainable development goals.
Okorie added that the platform would serve as a space for critical conversations on the role of energy communication in national development, bringing together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers from across the country.
The NNPC Foundation, through its partnership with Pan Atlantic University, positions the symposium as part of a sustained effort to place environmental communication at the centre of Nigeria's development agenda, to host the Energy and Environment Symposium in June
