A significant diplomatic and academic milestone was achieved at the University of Communication and Management in Poznań, Poland, following the appointment of a Nigerian academic as the head of its strategic regional hub. Professor Stephen Sinikiem Azaiki officially assumed leadership of the Centre for Polish and African Affairs to drive international research and bilateral policy initiatives.
The Institution revealed that the tenure commenced on Monday, 4 May 2026, for an initial duration of exactly two years, with options for subsequent renewal. The rector of the Institution, Professor Jerzy Olszewski, noted that the University administration possesses absolute confidence in the administrative prowess and deep scholarly background of the appointee. The rector stated that the new director is expected to aggressively elevate the international reputation and policy influence of the specialised Institution.
Charged with advancing education, trade partnerships, and intercultural synergy, the research entity serves as a critical bridge between European and African stakeholders. Observers disclosed that the Poznań facility regularly draws global researchers and postgraduate academics while spearheading major diplomatic programmes like the Polish Nigerian Trade and Investment Forum. Under the new leadership, the establishment will expand scholarship provisions for African postgraduates and foster deep research networks with Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Hailing from Bayelsa State, the appointee holds dual doctoral degrees in Agriculture and Public Administration, along with an extensive public service record. Officials remarked that the scholar previously served as the commissioner for agriculture, a two term secretary to the Bayelsa State government, and a national lawmaker between 2019 and 2023. The director also established the Azaiki Public Library and holds the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.
