The university's Public Relations Officer, Victor Akinpelumi, confirmed the appointment in a statement, describing Obamuyi as a founding stakeholder of the institution since its transition in December 1999.

Obamuyi holds a PhD in management science from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, obtained in 2005, and a certificate in financial technology from the New York University Stern School of Business, obtained in 2019. He brings more than three decades of academic experience to the role.

He has also served as external examiner for 223 postgraduate oral examinations across Nigeria, South Africa, and India, and as external assessor for 88 professorial appointments.

Obamuyi served as the first substantive dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, from 2015 to 2019, and later as director of the University Advancement Centre from 2019 to 2022. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Lagos, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, and Redeemer's University, Ede.

His funded research portfolio spans TETFund National Research Fund projects, United States Agency for International Development sponsored studies, and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor commissioned by Babson College in the United States.
