The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Professor Francisca Bassey, has officially matriculated 9,454 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a massive transition for the institution.

During the high profile ceremony, Professor Bassey issued a stern warning to the new intake, demanding a total rejection of social and academic vices as they enter various faculties and programs.

The university maintains a strict zero tolerance policy regarding examination malpractice, drug abuse, bullying, and sexual harassment. Violators are warned they will face immediate and severe disciplinary consequences.

Additional prohibitions against indecent dressing and vandalism were highlighted, with the Vice Chancellor emphasising that the institution’s standards of conduct are non negotiable for all enrolled students.

Professor Bassey reminded the cohort that matriculation is a formal contract of discipline and integrity, requiring a deep seated dedication to learning from day one.

Students were urged to remain laser focused on their studies, making full use of the university’s library, specialised laboratories, and modern ICT facilities to gain a competitive edge.

To alleviate financial burdens, the Vice Chancellor encouraged the freshers to tap into the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), designed specifically for student support.

She confirmed that funds for early applicants have already been successfully disbursed to the university, while others must complete registration to benefit from the ongoing scheme.

The Vice Chancellor also extended formal appreciation to the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, noting that his administration’s consistent support has been vital to the university’s growth.

In a move to champion meritocracy, the institution will continue its tradition of rewarding academic excellence with scholarships and prizes during the upcoming student week.

Notably, Professor Bassey revealed that these academic prizes are personally sponsored from her own salary as a direct effort to inspire diligence among the student body.

While congratulating the new students, she charged them to pursue their degrees with unwavering commitment and to uphold the core values of the UNICROSS community throughout their stay.
