Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has given his consent to the appointment of Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the sixth Chancellor of Lagos State University.

This appointment was made after Professor Gbolahan Elias completed his tenure as the fifth Chancellor of Lagos State University.

The announcement was made through a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel Fanu, on Sunday.

The statement disclosed that the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law of 2004, as amended, which authorises the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor.

According to the statement, the Chancellor shall hold office for a term of five years, and the term shall commence on Friday, February 13, 2026, at which time the Chancellor may be reappointed for one more term.

University authorities, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, felicitated Oba Ogunsanwo and wished him the very best in his new role.

They mentioned that his appointment will be a great asset to the institution and will help in the academic and administrative advancements of the university.

In the same way, the state government, along with the members of the university community, praised Professor Elias for his dedication and zeal towards the development of the University during his time in office.
