The management of Southern Delta University has approved a temporary identification measure that permits students to present school fees payment receipts or student portal printouts in place of university identity cards during examinations, following intervention by the Students' Union Government on behalf of affected students.

The Students' Union Government announced the development in a statement, disclosing that it engaged the Vice Chancellor and university management after receiving numerous complaints from students who had been unable to sit examinations due to the absence of official identity cards.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Sunny Awhefeada, approved the temporary measure after considering the union's appeal, stipulating that any document presented as alternative identification must contain the student's name, matriculation number, photograph and other verifiable details.

The approval is intended to ensure that eligible students are not barred from examinations while the university awaits materials required for the production of official identity cards.

Students have been advised to utilise the temporary provision only in the interim and to obtain their official university identity cards as soon as production materials become available at the ICT Directorate, as the identity card remains the institution's recognised means of student identification.

The Students' Union Government acknowledged the Vice Chancellor and university management for their prompt response to the concerns raised on behalf of the student body.
