The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has conducted a supportive assessment visit to the University of Maiduguri, focusing on the operations of the institution's Centre of Excellence in Arid Zone Research.

The delegation, led by Professor Umar Buba Bindir, was received at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Services), Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, who represented Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele.

The team engaged with the centre's management and staff, evaluated ongoing activities and identified operational challenges, with a view to making recommendations that would enhance the centre's sustainability and broader impact. The delegation was keen to stress that the exercise was not an audit but rather a supportive engagement intended to strengthen performance and ensure the centre's long term viability.

TETFund's representatives also outlined the fund's shifting priorities, noting that its mandate had evolved beyond infrastructure development and academic staff training towards research that delivers direct societal impact in alignment with national development goals.

Professor Waziri welcomed TETFund's continued investment in the university and assured the delegation that the institution remained fully committed to translating knowledge into practical solutions. He added that the university was prepared to implement any recommendations arising from the assessment.
