Thomas Adewumi University has redefined medical training in Nigeria by deploying a state of the art virtual dissection table to enhance the education of its medical students. This technological advancement marks a new era in the teaching of human anatomy at the institution located in Oko Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. Vice Chancellor Francisca OnaOlapo Oladipo revealed this development in a statement released to journalists during the weekend, highlighting the university's commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

The Asclepius TBK 84 EA Virtual Dissection Table, supplied by 3B Scientific, represents a significant investment in cutting edge educational technology. This advanced 84 inch interactive 3D platform is designed for anatomy, radiology, and surgical simulation. University officials described the development as a transformative milestone that redefines the traditional anatomy theatre. They noted that the equipment enables students to explore the human body digitally in life size detail, examining anatomical structures layer by layer without the need for physical dissection.

“With the introduction of this innovation, TAU becomes one of the first universities in Nigeria to integrate virtual dissection technology into its medical curriculum, marking a new era in the teaching and learning of human anatomy,” the statement said. The platform allows students and medical professionals to carry out a wide range of advanced learning and clinical simulations. These include virtual dissections of life size human cadavers and the real time conversion of CT and MRI scans into detailed 3D models.

Furthermore, the system supports the simulation of complex pre surgical procedures, in depth studies in histopathology, radiology, and endoscopy, as well as comparative anatomy across more than 40 animal species. It also enhances learning through access to more than 12000 curriculum based assessment questions, enabling students to test their knowledge and improve diagnostic skills in an interactive environment. Stakeholders in the education sector have commended the initiative, noting that the investment positions TAU among forward looking medical institutions. With the development, TAU continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub for advanced medical training, bringing global standards of education to Oko Irese and beyond.
