University of Jos students staged a protest on Tuesday after going without electricity and running water in their hostels since resumption, accusing university authorities of ignoring repeated complaints with no action taken.

The students said repeated complaints to university authorities had yielded no results, forcing them to take their grievances public. They warned that the demonstration would continue until the university restored basic services.

Speaking during the protest, student Felix Bala stated, "Since our resumption, we have not had power in our hostels. We were told that the power was cut off. We demand the immediate restoration of electricity."

Bala explained that the electricity outage had triggered a secondary crisis, as water supply to the hostels depended on pumping machines powered by electricity. Students were left without running water from Thursday through Monday, with no improvement in conditions, while hostel toilets and other facilities remained unclean throughout the period.

The protesters expressed frustration over what they described as a deliberate silence from university management despite days of formal complaints. An anonymous student among those gathered noted that some off campus students had urged the protesters to end the blockade and allow university authorities time to respond, but the appeal did not gain traction.

As of the time of filing this report, the Students Union Government President, Senator Younglan Talyoung, the university's Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Madugu, and other university officials were unreachable. The Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Chris Piwuna, was also unavailable for comment, with repeated calls to his telephone indicating it was switched off.

The protest reflects growing concerns among students about the state of welfare infrastructure within the university's hostel system, with the current academic session barely underway and basic amenities already failing.
