Tension across the Jos metropolis has prompted the University of Jos to place its entire community on alert, as the institution responds to a wave of attacks and killings in several communities across Plateau State.
Management issued a formal security directive through a statement signed by Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, on behalf of the Registrar. The statement, authorised under Vice Chancellor Prof. Ishaya Tanko, advised staff, students, and all members of the institution to avoid unnecessary movement, with particular caution urged during the early hours of the morning.
The university confirmed that its Security Division is working in active collaboration with external security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property both on and off campus. Members of the community were specifically asked to report any sign of a breach of the peace to the University Security Division without delay.
On the ground, security personnel, including soldiers and Police Officers, have been deployed to strategic locations across the state capital as authorities work to contain the unrest and restore order.
"We call on residents and University stakeholders to remain alert while authorities work to maintain stability," the statement read.
The directive takes effect immediately. With security agencies still actively responding to the situation across Plateau State, the University has made clear that the safety of its community will not be left to chance.
