The Department of Human Physiology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, will hold its fourth induction and oath taking ceremony on Thursday, July 16, 2026, formally admitting new Associate Members and Provisional Clinical Physiologists into the Professional Association of Practicing Clinical Physiologists in Nigeria.
The ceremony, scheduled for 11 am at the Prof O. Udemezue Auditorium, will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, with PAPCPN President Prince Ugochukwu Okeke leading the induction delegation to administer the oath to new members.
PAPCPN was inaugurated on June 28, 2021, and has since positioned itself as Nigeria's principal professional body for clinical physiologists, working to unite practitioners across the country's physiological science disciplines and secure formal recognition for the profession within the healthcare system. The association restricts induction strictly to graduates of Human Physiology, warning that membership can be revoked if an inductee is later found not to hold the required degree.
Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof J. K. C. Emejulu, will serve as chief host for Thursday's event, alongside Head of the Department of Human Physiology, Dr C. O. Okonkwo, as host, and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof V. U. Igbokwe, as co-host.
The Nnewi campus department has featured prominently in PAPCPN's growth in recent years, with academics from the university's College of Health Sciences having previously spoken at national conferences on advancing clinical physiology teaching and practice in Nigeria. The department has also produced large cohorts of graduating physiologists inducted into the association at earlier ceremonies.
PAPCPN leadership has consistently urged inductees to prepare for active roles in hospitals, arguing that many healthcare institutions require clinical physiologists but remain unaware of the profession's availability because it has yet to achieve full prominence within Nigeria's health sector.
Members of PAPCPN and the general public have been invited to attend Thursday's ceremony, with enquiries to be directed to Dr E. N. Ezeokafor.
