Nnamdi Azikiwe University has taken the top prize at the inaugural Heirs Insurance Hackathon, with its three member team walking away with ₦5 million after outperforming competitors from higher institutions across Nigeria in an artificial intelligence themed insurance challenge.

The grand finale, held at Heirs Towers in Lagos, brought together young tech talent, industry experts, and mentors to celebrate innovation in the insurance sector, with the event themed "The Future of Insurance: Streamlining Insurance with AI."

Team Omnivoice, comprising Unah Chinweotuto, John Justice, and John Trust, claimed the top prize, while Team Alafia from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, secured second place with a ₦3 million prize. Team Von Mises from Lagos State University placed third, taking home ₦1 million.

The maiden edition of the hackathon attracted a significant number of entries from students at higher learning institutions across the country, all presenting practical ideas aimed at transforming insurance in Nigeria through artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

Speaking at the grand finale, the Chief Digital Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, Peace O Philips, expressed satisfaction with the quality of solutions presented by the competing teams.

"We are truly impressed by the outstanding creativity, technical depth, and practical solutions showcased by these young talents today. This maiden hackathon has exceeded our expectations and clearly demonstrates the immense potential of Nigerian youth to solve real insurance challenges using Artificial Intelligence and digital innovation," Philips stated.

The hackathon reflects Heirs Insurance Group's commitment to youth empowerment, digital skills development, and inclusive innovation, offering students a platform to apply emerging technologies to actual challenges within the insurance industry while receiving mentorship and industry exposure.

The competition was delivered in partnership with Redtech, the digital payment solutions arm of Heirs Holdings.
