The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has launched its Hall of Honour, recognising distinguished scholars whose work has advanced the faculty, the university, and broader society.

Among those inducted was Professor Nnaemeka Chukwuone, Director of the Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre, Environment for Development (REPRC EfD) Nigeria. The Dean, Professor John Ikechukwu Eze, noted that Chukwuone was honoured for his commitment to mentorship, academic excellence, and success in securing grants and development projects that have benefited the faculty and the university.

Chukwuone played a central role in bringing the Environment for Development network to the university in 2018. The centre has since become one of the university’s flagship research institutes, implementing multi million dollar national and international policy relevant research projects addressing environmental and development challenges across Nigeria and Africa.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, praised the faculty for instituting the award. “I am very proud of the Faculty of Agriculture for remembering those who have contributed immensely to the growth of the University of Nigeria, the faculty, and humanity,” Ortuanya stated.

He urged recipients to continue their excellent work. “This honour is not the end of the journey but rather a motivation to continue making meaningful contributions to scholarship, research, mentorship, and national development,” Ortuanya said.

Other scholars inducted include Professor Michael Madukwe, Professor Anthonia Achike, and Professor Nicholas Ozor, all recognised for exceptional contributions to the faculty’s growth.

Eze said the ceremony celebrates individuals whose legacies have strengthened the faculty and inspired generations. “We are celebrating individuals whose legacies have strengthened our faculty and inspired generations of students and scholars. Their achievements serve as a model for younger academics aspiring to make lasting contributions to the university system,” Eze said.

Chukwuone dedicated the honour to God, his late parents, his wife, and colleagues at EfD Nigeria and EfD Global Hub. “This award is a reminder that service to humanity and commitment to excellence never go unnoticed. I accept this recognition with humility and renew my commitment to the advancement of the Faculty of Agriculture and the University of Nigeria,” he said.

The maiden ceremony marks a milestone as the faculty seeks to celebrate excellence, preserve institutional memory, and inspire future researchers.
