Students and Staff at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) now have access to improved medical care on campus following the commissioning of upgraded facilities and new equipment at the University's Health Centre on 17 March 2026.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, led an inspection tour of the upgraded units and newly established departments within the centre before formally commissioning the facilities.
Acting Director of Health Services, Olufemi Famuyiwa, said the upgrades were achieved through sustained institutional investment and would significantly improve the centre's capacity to deliver timely and efficient care. He described the Vice Chancellor's administration as one that has created the conditions for meaningful progress in infrastructure and service delivery across the University.
Professor Oladiji, in her remarks, said functional and well equipped health facilities are essential for handling emergencies and ensuring that members of the University community receive prompt medical attention when they need it. She urged students and staff to make full use of the upgraded centre and called on health personnel to maintain high standards in their service.
The improvement to the Health Centre matters most to the students who depend on it. For undergraduates living on or near campus, access to a well equipped medical facility can be the difference between prompt treatment and a health emergency that escalates due to distance or inadequate care. Many Nigerian University Health Centres have long struggled with outdated equipment and limited capacity, making FUTA's upgrade a practical step rather than a ceremonial one.
The University said the newly commissioned equipment and renovated spaces would be properly maintained to serve the growing healthcare needs of the institution's community.
