The Administrative and Finance Committee of the West African Examinations Council has passed a formal vote of confidence in the leadership of its Nigeria National Office, declaring its full backing for the Head of National Office, Dr Amos Josiah Dangut, amid ongoing union related concerns.
The endorsement followed the committee's 240th meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where members conducted a comprehensive review of the Nigeria National Office's operations and declared themselves satisfied with the management's performance.
The committee, which serves as the council's highest advisory body on administrative and financial matters in Nigeria, commended Dr Dangut and his management team for what it described as exemplary leadership, operational efficiency, and institutional discipline, particularly in sustaining the uninterrupted conduct of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, 2026.
"The Committee commends Management for sustaining stability, professionalism, and uninterrupted examination processes across Nigeria," the statement read.
The committee noted that the management's handling of administrative responsibilities and staff engagement reflects professionalism, strategic focus, and a strong commitment to WAEC's core values, expressing confidence in the team's capacity to continue advancing the council's mandate effectively.
The development comes against the backdrop of a dispute between the WAEC workers' union and management, which had earlier culminated in a three day protest over welfare concerns and unfulfilled agreements. At the conclusion of the protest, the union narrowed its demands to a single call for the removal of Dr Dangut as head of the national office.
The committee cautioned against any actions capable of undermining the council's institutional reputation and integrity, while reaffirming its commitment to transparency, staff welfare, and a peaceful working environment.
Candidates, parents, ministries of education, and other education stakeholders were assured that the council's operations nationwide remain stable and fully on course. Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Yaba, signed the statement.
