The Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, has revoked the promotion of a lecturer in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences to the professorial cadre, citing a serious breach of the institution's regulations.
The affected academic, Dr Edomwonyi Omon Edwin of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, had his promotion to the rank of professor withdrawn following what the university described as a violation of its Regulations and Schemes Governing Senior Staff 2017, as amended. The decision was approved at the university's 241st Regular Meeting held on March 17, 2026.
A statement issued by the Registrar of the institution, Mrs Ambrose Agbebaku, confirmed the withdrawal and directed Edwin to immediately stop presenting himself as a professor of Ambrose Alli University. "The withdrawal is a sequel to the serious breach of the University Regulations and Schemes Governing Senior Staff 2017 (as amended)," the statement read.
The university stated that the notice was issued for the information of staff, students, members of the university community, and the general public, and urged the affected lecturer to comply strictly with the directive. No further details were provided on the precise nature of the alleged breach that triggered the council's decision.
This development represents a major disciplinary measure by the governing council, highlighting AAU's declared dedication to maintaining the standards outlined in its senior staff regulatory framework.
