Achievers University, Owo, secured full accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery programme, with an approved admission quota of 120 students, marking one of the key milestones recorded during the eight month tenure of Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Amos Oyesoji Aremu.

The achievement was disclosed in the executive summary of Aremu's handover report, released ahead of the expiration of his appointment on 31 July 2026.

Aremu, who assumed the role on 1 December 2025 following the temporary exit of substantive Vice Chancellor Professor Omolola Oladunni Irinoye, stated that the Institution remained academically and administratively stable throughout his tenure, despite challenges including a fraud case uncovered in April 2026 and traced to the 2023/2024 academic session.

He revealed that the University completed the 2025/2026 academic session while introducing governance reforms to strengthen internal administration. These included Senate approval of a Policy on Name Rendering and Seating Arrangements, the rescheduling of Convocation Day to 24 October to align with the Federal Government's approval date for the Institution's establishment, and the inauguration of several committees, among them the Joint Achievers University/Federal Medical Centre Implementation Committee.

Beyond the MBBS programme, the University secured full accreditation for Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sociology, Criminology and Security Studies, Microbiology, and Medical Laboratory Science.

Aremu noted that the University revived its inaugural lecture series, with three lectures delivered during the period, the first since 2022, alongside the procurement of new academic gowns for inaugural and public lectures.

On postgraduate studies, the report highlighted new quality assurance mechanisms for doctoral programmes and progress toward establishing Distance Education and e learning platforms, with course materials for the Bachelor of Nursing programme already developed. He added that the University intensified efforts to boost its global research visibility through registration with the Times Higher Education world ranking system.

New promotion guidelines and standardised curriculum vitae formats were also introduced, applied during the 2025/2026 exercise, which produced two promotions to the rank of Reader and five readership cases declared prima facie qualified.

Infrastructure gains included improvements to ICT facilities, security architecture, and environmental sustainability, with 30 tree seedlings planted at the Faculty of Technology and Engineering and 108 more planted across the campus under a greening initiative.

Aremu credited the Pro Chancellor, Governing Council, Senate, management, staff, and students for the outcomes, expressing confidence that he was handing over a stable and forward looking Institution.
