Babcock University has reaffirmed its dedication to equipping students with practical skills and industry experience through strategic collaborations with professional bodies and media organisations.
The institution's President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Ojewole, revealed this during official visits to Lagos Television and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and workplace demands.
Professor Ojewole explained that the university's vision centres on developing graduates who can drive innovation, embrace entrepreneurship, and compete effectively on the global stage through research and practical application of knowledge.
He emphasised that continuous partnership between universities and industry stakeholders is essential for preparing students to meet the challenges of modern professional environments.
"We want our students to gain practical industry exposure while still in school. Such engagement will help bridge the gap between theory and practice and ensure that our graduates are well prepared for life beyond the classroom," Professor Ojewole stated.
During the visit to Lagos Television, the Vice Chancellor, accompanied by the Associate Vice President for Communication, Media and Branding, Dr Babafemi Akintayo, and other senior university officials, engaged in productive discussions with the station's General Manager, Mrs Adesola Kosoko, and her management team.
Mrs Kosoko welcomed the delegation and pledged LTV's support in nurturing aspiring media professionals through organised industry programmes and mentorship opportunities.
The university disclosed that, beyond providing internship placements, it is broadening its academic offerings to include professional certification courses and skills development initiatives designed to boost the marketability of its graduates both locally and internationally.
Babcock University noted that this effort is part of a comprehensive strategy to foster stronger relationships between the academic community and industry partners, whilst positioning its graduates as leaders capable of driving innovation and making meaningful contributions to society.
The institution's approach reflects a growing recognition among Nigerian universities of the need to align educational outcomes with labour market requirements to improve graduate employment rates and career success.
