Bayero University Kano has launched a preliminary inquiry into allegations linking one of its students to online impersonation and financial misconduct. The investigation follows social media reports accusing a student of defrauding a US based journalism teacher, Prof. Farooq Kperogi.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, the university emphasized that the matter is being reviewed in line with established rules. "In view of the allegations, the University has commenced a preliminary inquiry to ascertain the facts surrounding the matter. The appropriate University authorities are reviewing the issue in line with the institution’s established rules and disciplinary procedures governing students’ conduct," the statement read.

The Management highlighted that the institution maintains strict standards. "The Management wishes to state that Bayero University Kano maintains strict standards of conduct, discipline, and character for all students throughout the duration of their studies," the statement noted.

Garba clarified that the university is aware of the circulating reports. "The Management of Bayero University Kano has taken note of allegations currently circulating in a public commentary and on social media linking a person reported to be a student of the University to acts of online impersonation and financial misconduct," the statement disclosed.

Amidst the investigation, the university commended the efforts of public spirited individuals who support students. "Such acts of generosity continue to play an important role in expanding access to education and supporting deserving students," the statement remarked.

The institution assured the public that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken if the allegations were substantiated. "Members of the public are kindly urged to allow the investigative process to take its course while refraining from speculation or the circulation of unverified information," the statement added.
