Candidates who sat examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) can now access, request, and share digital copies of their certificates with institutions anywhere in the world, following the full rollout of the council's new Digital Certificate Services System across its five member countries.
The platform, officially named WAEC DigiCert, is now operational in Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. It functions as both a mobile and web based application, giving candidates and other stakeholders direct access to verified digital versions of original WAEC certificates.
The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, announced the development in a statement issued on behalf of the Registrar. "The WAEC Digital Certificate Services System offers candidates the opportunity to access, request, confirm, and securely share digital copies of their certificates with institutions worldwide," he said.
Beyond certificate access, the system also enables users to recover lost WAEC examination numbers. Ojijeogu described the platform as a significant improvement over existing manual processes. "The system is reliable and secure, and its authenticity is guaranteed while reducing administrative bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection processes," he stated, adding that users would also benefit from considerable cost savings.
He reassured the public that the launch of WAEC DigiCert would not affect the production or distribution of physical certificates, with both formats remaining available. Candidates and stakeholders were encouraged to download the mobile application or visit the council's official website and social media platforms for more information.
