The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria has inducted 250 graduates of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria Nsukka, in what marks the first ever induction and oath taking ceremony conducted for the institution's engineering faculty.

COREN Registrar, Prof Okorie Uche, administered the oath in Nsukka on Tuesday, congratulating the graduates on completing the academic requirements that qualified them for professional induction.

Prof Uche charged the new inductees to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, warning that the council takes a firm position against misconduct within the engineering profession.

"As you take this oath, I urge you all to maintain high professional conduct of the engineering profession," he stated. "Engineering is a noble profession, and the Council frowns on any act of professional misconduct."

The registrar also commended parents and guardians for their investment in the education of their children and wards, and recognised the Faculty of Engineering for equipping the graduates with adequate professional knowledge.

UNN Vice Chancellor, Prof Simon Ortuanya, represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof Michael Onyia, described the occasion as a landmark achievement and a testament to the university's commitment to academic excellence.

"I congratulate the Dean, members of staff, students and entire faculty of engineering for attaining this important milestone," he said. "We appreciate your continued partnership in strengthening engineering education and ensuring that graduates are prepared to meet the highest standard of professional practice."

Prof Ortuanya urged the inductees, as ambassadors of the university, to let their conduct reflect the values of the institution and to continue applying their knowledge towards addressing challenges facing their communities, the nation and the world.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof Ikechukwu Ike Eze, described the ceremony as a defining moment in the faculty's history, framing it as the beginning of a lifelong professional journey rather than merely a celebration of academic success.

"This ceremony is not merely a celebration of academic success; it is the beginning of a lifelong professional journey founded on competence, integrity, innovation, and service to humanity," he said.

The dean further urged graduates to let wisdom guide their knowledge, integrity govern their innovation, and positive societal impact define their success. Prof Chigbo Mgbemene delivered the induction lecture, while Prof Clifford Nwoji chaired the event.
