Dennis Osadebay University in Asaba will host its first convocation ceremony on Saturday, 7th March 2026, awarding degrees to 416 students across 28 programmes.

Professor Ben E.A. Oghojafor, Vice Chancellor of DOU, addressed journalists on Monday, 2nd March 2026, at the university's main auditorium, revealing that the weeklong ceremony began with a press conference and will feature a convocation lecture and degree awarding ceremony.

The graduating students include 25 First Class Honours, 167 Second Class Honours Upper Division, 185 Second Class Honours Lower Division, and 39 Third Class Honours, with Mike Ogisi Regina Chukwufunmanya, the overall best graduate, already qualified as a chartered accountant.

Professor Oghojafor, who specialises in Strategic and Entrepreneurial Management, reflected on the institution's remarkable growth since its establishment in 2021, noting that student enrollment has expanded from 651 to over 5,800 in the current session.

"We have come a long way. From a modest enrollment of 651 students to over 5,800 students in the current session, our growth is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence," Professor Oghojafor stated.

He disclosed that the university currently employs 8,672 staff, including 467 academic staff, and offers 86 programmes across six faculties, with all programmes except 35 holding full accreditation, which are awaiting decisions.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted achievements, including the construction of modern facilities, the establishment of a digital library equipped with an uninterrupted power supply, and the introduction of innovative programs in fields such as computing and allied medical sciences.

"Our goal is to produce locally relevant and globally competitive graduates. The university's growth is attributed to diligence, hard work, and vision nurturing. We are intentional about producing students who are worthy in learning and character," he emphasised.

Professor Oghojafor noted that DOU's entrepreneurship programme focuses on training future employers rather than job seekers. To enhance academic excellence, the institution attracts visiting professors and lecturers from established universities.

The convocation lecture is scheduled for Thursday, 5th March 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by the Founder's Day Lecture on Friday, 6th March 2026. The degree awarding ceremony will take place on Saturday, 7th March 2026, at 10:00 AM.

He expressed gratitude to the government and people of Delta State, particularly former Governor Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, for the opportunity to lead the institution, describing serving as pioneer Vice Chancellor as a sour and sweet experience.

The event will include an exhibition and an alumni reception, giving guests a chance to network and explore the university’s facilities.
