Northwest University, Kano State, has expelled 34 students following their involvement in examination misconduct, with an additional 18 students rusticated and 22 others issued warning letters for related offences.

The expulsions were contained in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr Isyaku Adamu.

According to the statement, the university Senate approved the expulsions at its 66th statutory meeting held on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, 2026, acting on recommendations from the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct arising from the Second Semester 2024/2025 examination.

"The Senate of the university at its 66th statutory meeting held on Wednesday, 17th and Thursday, 18th June 2026 approved the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct arising from the Second Semester 2024/2025 Examination," the statement read.

The university said the sanctions were applied in accordance with its Examination Regulations as contained in the Students' Handbook.

In a development that offered some relief among the cases reviewed, one student, Rukayya Ahmad Zukuri, was exonerated after a review of the case against her.

The institution reiterated its commitment to academic integrity and urged all students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing examinations.
