Prospective students seeking admission into the University of Lagos Distance Learning Institute have been put on alert after the institution warned that fraudsters are actively posing as official representatives in order to collect money from unsuspecting applicants.

The Institute issued the warning in a statement on Monday, making clear that it has no relationship with any external agents, consultants, or individuals claiming to process applications or handle admissions on its behalf. Every such claim, the Institute stated, is false.

The directive on payments was unambiguous. The only legitimate channel for submitting an application is the official University of Lagos application portal, and the approved fee of N20,000 must be paid exclusively through that platform. The institute specifically warned against making payments into personal or third party bank accounts, regardless of what any individual may claim about their authority or affiliation.

"Any dealings with such persons are strictly at the applicant's own risk," the statement read.

The institute urged all prospective students to rely only on official communication channels when seeking information about the admissions process.

For anyone currently planning to apply to the UNILAG Distance Learning Institute, the message could not be clearer. If the instruction or payment request did not come through the official portal, it did not come from the institution. Verifying the source of any communication before parting with money remains the most reliable protection against a scam that appears to be actively targeting this year's applicant pool.
