The Federal University Oye Ekiti in Ekiti State has appointed Dr Sunday Saanu as its Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs, bringing on board a communication scholar and journalist with extensive experience in both public and private universities.
Mr Mufutau Ibrahim, Registrar of the university, announced the appointment in a statement on Monday in Oye Ekiti, congratulating Saanu on becoming the pioneering Director of the unit.
Dr Saanu previously served as Media Assistant to four Vice Chancellors at the University of Ibadan before moving to Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo, where he built a strong reputation as an established writer with a compelling prose style.
The statement described him as bringing a rare blend of academic depth and administrative pragmatism to Federal University Oye Ekiti, personifying a new model of leadership in university communication management.
"Dr Sunday Saanu has been appointed as the Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs of FUOYE. He is a graduate of communication and a distinguished journalist with diverse experiences and insights gained over the years in both public and private universities," the statement read.
Dr Saanu attended Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta before obtaining a Higher National Diploma from Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, and subsequently moved to the University of Ibadan, where he studied Communication and Language Arts.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Language Arts, a Master of Communication Arts, a Master of Arts, and a PhD in Cultural and Media Studies, all from the University of Ibadan, wrapping his academic career with doctoral studies at the same institution.
Dr Saanu is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, adding professional certification to his academic qualifications in the field of communication and public relations.
The appointment positions the communication scholar to lead the university's efforts in managing its public image, media relations, and corporate communication strategies as the institution continues expanding its academic programmes and infrastructure.
Federal University Oye Ekiti, established to provide tertiary education opportunities in Ekiti State, has been strengthening its administrative structures through strategic appointments of experienced professionals across various departments.
The new Director is expected to leverage his journalism background, academic training, and years of experience working with university leadership to enhance the institution's communication effectiveness and public engagement strategies.
