One hundred and fifty students at Obafemi Awolowo University received N100,000 each on Wednesday from the Omotayo Adegboye Foundation, bringing the total scholarship disbursement for the year to N15 million and marking the second consecutive year the foundation has supported indigent students at the institution.

The beneficiaries were formally presented to the University community at a ceremony held on the OAU campus. Vice Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire, who attended the event, commended the foundation for its consistency and described the impact of such support as extending well beyond immediate financial relief.

"Supporting these students has a multiplier effect. It will inspire them to help others in the future. These students will never forget this moment and will continue to pray for everyone supporting this cause," he said.

Foundation Secretary Mr. Ariyo Odole confirmed that the programme began in 2025, when 106 students each received N100,000. This year's cohort of 150 represents an expansion of the initiative, and Odole indicated that the foundation intends to grow further. "We plan to continue and expand this project, eventually reaching primary and secondary schools. For students in part one, we will support them throughout their University education, providing N100,000 each year," he said.

Separately, the foundation donated modern toilet facilities worth N20 million to the University of Ilesa. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Saheed Adekilekun, said the donation followed consultation with the University's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Ashaolu. Representing the VC at the commissioning, Registrar Funso Ojo said the facilities addressed a genuine need at an institution currently running 97 programmes and serving over 13,000 students. "The government cannot do it alone; we rely on philanthropists and foundations like this," he said.

The foundation, established by OAU Alumnus Omotayo Adegboye, has been involved in several infrastructure and welfare initiatives across both Institutions. In October 2025, it donated a N20 million combined Volleyball and Basketball court to Awolowo Hall of Residence at OAU.
