The Federal University of Environment and Technology, Rivers State, and the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Zaria, Kaduna State, have confirmed a combined N91.97 million from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to offset institutional charges for 536 of their students.
FUET accounted for the larger share, receiving N85.12 million to settle fees for 395 students, while NILEST received N6.85 million covering registration costs for 141 students under the Federal Government's student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a letter dated 22 May 2026, the Vice Chancellor of FUET, Prof. Prince Ch. Mmom, confirmed the University received its allocation across three separate batches. The first batch, comprising 118 beneficiaries, brought N25,915,398. The second batch covered 142 students with N30,404,462, and the third batch catered for 135 beneficiaries with N28,799,735, totalling N85,119,595.
NILEST's Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Auwal Imam, confirmed similar receipt in a letter dated 1 June 2026, addressed to NELFUND's Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr. The Institute acknowledged the fifth, sixth and seventh tranches of disbursement, with 79 students benefiting from N3.628 million in the fifth tranche, 61 students receiving N3.173 million in the sixth, and one student receiving N49,950 under the seventh.
Both institutions commended NELFUND for its role in widening access to tertiary education, remarking that the scheme has relieved financial pressure on beneficiaries and allowed students to continue their studies without interruption.
FUET and NILEST further expressed gratitude for NELFUND's ongoing partnership in advancing the Federal Government's education financing agenda.
