The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has assured corps members that the Federal Government remains committed to their security and welfare, urging them to embrace entrepreneurship and financial discipline throughout their service year.

Nafiu gave the assurance during a working visit to Kogi State, where he interacted with corps members in Lokoja.

The Director General advised corps members to maintain discipline, dedicate themselves to duty, and report suspicious activities to relevant security agencies, reminding them that security was a collective responsibility.

He encouraged members to take their post camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training seriously, stressing that the programme offered a foundation for self sufficiency beyond the service year.

"Be proactive, identify business opportunities within your host communities, and start making some money for yourselves even now," he said.

Nafiu acknowledged the prevailing economic challenges but urged corps members to cultivate a savings culture, describing it as the foundation for long term prosperity.

"Take your service year as a training ground for future financial management by managing your finances wisely," he stressed.

The NYSC Director General also called on state and local governments and corps employers to improve the welfare of corps members, warning that employers who failed to provide accommodation and transport risked being blacklisted from accessing corps services.

The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Tochi Chika Chris Moneke, expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of the Director General's commitment to corps members and staff. She disclosed that the state secretariat was planning a corps employers' workshop and a Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers programme in the coming weeks.
