The Federal University Oye Ekiti has conducted its inaugural matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students of the Institute of Distance Learning for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The event took place on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the university's main campus in Oye Ekiti and was simultaneously streamed to three liaison offices in Lagos, Abuja, and Oyo states. Students in Abuja gathered at Plot 31416, Kurape Road, Karshi, while those in Oyo assembled at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, and learners in Lagos and Ogun states met at 65A Abba Johnson Street, Off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, led the ceremony alongside the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Linkages, Professor Afolabi Babatunde; University Registrar, Mr Mufutau Ibrahim, who administered the oaths, and the Director of the Centre, Dr Omolade Adeleke. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board was represented by Ekiti State Coordinator Mr Isola Ganiu Babaita.
The matriculating students consist of working adults, corporate organisation staff, and teachers seeking university education to strengthen their curriculum vitae. They wore colourful FUOYE matriculation gowns and joined virtually from centres outside the main campus.
Professor Ogunwole emphasised that university education extends beyond academic excellence to character development. He stated, “You are coming into FUOYE to become good ambassadors of this institution who will represent its image positively anywhere in the world.
“To earn a university degree, a student must be found worthy in both learning and character. If anyone is awarded our certificate and is later found wanting, such a certificate can be withdrawn.”
He declared zero tolerance for student extortion, sexual harassment, sex for marks, and all forms of indiscipline under his administration. “Let me state clearly that FUOYE, under my administration, has zero tolerance for student extortion, sexual harassment, sex for marks practices, and all forms of indiscipline. I urge you to avoid any form of misconduct and speak up whenever you witness wrongdoing.”
The Director, Associate Professor Omolade Adeleke, revealed that admission for Business Administration continues and five additional courses will launch next session, including Accounting, Computer Science, Criminology and Security Studies, Public Administration, and Mass Communication.
“By God’s grace, by next academic session, we are preparing to add five more courses, namely: Accounting, Computer Science, Criminology and Security Studies, Public Administration, and Mass Communication. All these programmes are the most subscribed courses in the university.”
