To support indigenous students' training and education abroad, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has authorised and released a total of N714.98 million.
This was revealed by Isah Abubakar-Tunga, the state commissioner for higher education, during a press briefing on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi.
He claimed that Mr Idris's efforts to modernise the state's postsecondary education and bring it into compliance with international standards included the approvals.
He clarified that Kebbi indigenous students studying medicine, pharmacy, and medical and related sciences at Subharti University, GD Goenka University, and Jaipur National University, India, would receive N247.5 million from the governor to cover registration, tuition, visa extensions, internships, and financial aid.
He claims that the governor authorised N117.68 million as maintenance allowances for 25 native Kebbi State students pursuing medical degrees at seven Egyptian universities.
The commissioner also stated that N70.21 million was made available as financial aid for the state's indigenous students pursuing medical sciences and pharmacy at Jaipur National and GD Goenka Universities in India.
According to Mr Abubakar-Tunga, N349.73 million was authorised and released by the governor to cover the registration, tuition, and maintenance expenses for 35 natives of Kebbi State who are travelling to Ethiopia to pursue studies in medicine and pharmacy.
According to him, the governor's total financial commitment to the ministry during that time was N714.98 million, since all of the approvals were given in January.
The appointment of Dr Muhammad Murtala-Musa as the first Provost of Kauran Gwandu College of Midwifery Sciences, Ambursa, was also announced by the commissioner.
He continued by saying that the ministry was still dedicated to maintaining the governor's programmes for the state's educational advancement.
