The proprietor of Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology in Oyo State has alleged that dismissed former staff members, working in collaboration with unapproved private colleges of health in the state, orchestrated a student protest against the Institution's management following its listing as one of only two National Board for Technical Education approved colleges in Oyo State.
Sunday Owoseni made the allegation in a statement released in Ibadan on Thursday, describing the protest as an act of incitement driven by rivalry rather than legitimate student concerns.
Owoseni identified the two NBTE approved Institutions in Oyo State as his college and the state College of Science, Health and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan, stating that this status posed a threat to operators of unapproved institutions who feared scrutiny.
"The protest came from incitement from some individuals that we sacked when their attitudes negated the discipline and diligence that our Institution stands for," he stated. "We know where this is coming from, our former staff members who were sacked teamed up with a private college that was mentioned among some colleges that were recently accused of not having NBTE approval, created the blackmail and contacted some of our students to riot."
Owoseni maintained that students had no justifiable cause for the protest, adding that the Institution had consistently engaged them on the status of courses still undergoing accreditation and had encouraged them to sit professional examinations related to their programmes.
"There has never been any time we do not engage our students on developments around the courses that need accreditation. We are working day and night on that," he added.
The development follows a statement issued on April 3, 2026, by the Campaign for Better Public Health, which called on the Oyo State Ministry of Education and the NBTE to investigate the proliferation of illegal colleges of health in the state.
Owoseni appreciated the roles played by the Executive Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Rasaq Fadiran, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, the traditional council, and security agencies in resolving the matter.
