Nigerians seeking fully or partially funded study abroad opportunities have several international scholarship windows opening or closing before the end of 2026, with programmes spanning the United Kingdom, Russia and the United States now accepting or preparing to accept applications.

The United Kingdom's Chevening Scholarships, the UK government's flagship award for emerging leaders, will open applications on August 4 and close on October 6, 2026. The scholarship funds one year of taught Master's degrees and covers tuition, a monthly living allowance, return airfare and visa costs. Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a UK 2:1, have at least 2,800 hours of work experience and commit to returning to Nigeria for a minimum of two years after their studies.

The Open Doors Russian Scholarship Project, organised by the Global Universities Association, opens on August 20 and closes on November 13, 2026, offering tuition free admission to Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral and postdoctoral programmes at participating Russian universities. Previous editions attracted more than 146,000 applicants from 185 countries, producing over 6,300 winners. Available study areas include Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Medicine, Business and Russian Language and Culture.

Stanford University's Knight Hennessy Scholars Programme, which provides full funding for graduate study, requires applicants to submit both a Knight Hennessy application and a separate application to their chosen Stanford graduate programme. The Knight Hennessy deadline is October 6, 2026 at 1.00 p.m. Pacific Time, while the Stanford programme deadline falls by December 1, 2026 or the programme's own admission deadline, whichever comes first. Selection is based on leadership potential, independent thinking, civic commitment and academic excellence.

For experienced professionals, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, closes on July 31, 2026. The 10 month professional development programme requires at least five years of full time professional experience and covers airfare, tuition, living expenses and books, though it excludes funding for dependants.

Prospective applicants have been advised to update their CVs and academic records, secure strong recommendation letters early, prepare leadership focused personal statements and confirm English language requirements such as IELTS or TOEFL where applicable.
