Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, has expressed delight following the successful accreditation of the preclinical training programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. He described the development as a testament to the institution’s commitment to excellence in medical training.

The announcement was made during an exit briefing held on March 17, 2026, at the KWASU Business School in Ilorin. Nnaemeka Nwakama, Deputy Registrar of MDCN, led the team to present findings after a comprehensive evaluation of the university’s facilities, personnel, and academic standards. He commended the university for meeting the requirements necessary for the approval.

Nwakama particularly highlighted the strong collaboration between Kwara State University and the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital. He described the synergy between both institutions as a critical factor in the success of the accreditation process. He urged the university and its partners to sustain investment in infrastructure, personnel, and training to ensure continuous growth and global competitiveness.

“Medical education is both capital intensive and human resource driven,” Nwakama noted.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Health in Kwara State, Amina Ahmed El Imam, conveyed the appreciation of the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for the successful outcome. She noted that the positive report by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria underscores the council’s critical role in maintaining standards in medical education and strengthening the integrity of the healthcare profession in Nigeria.

Jimoh appreciated the thoroughness and professionalism of the accreditation team and assured stakeholders that the university would address all areas identified for improvement.

The accreditation now enables 300 level students of Medicine and Surgery at KWASU to proceed to their clinical training phase after sitting for their first professional examination. University officials say the development marks a major step forward in the institution’s quest to establish a fully accredited and competitive medical programme. This achievement reinforces the growing reputation of Kwara State University as an emerging hub for quality medical education in Nigeria.
