The Lagos State Police Command has initiated disciplinary proceedings against officers implicated in an alleged misconduct incident involving a serving National Youth Service Corps member. SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed on Monday via her X handle that the accused officers have been identified and are under investigation.

According to Adebisi, two officers have been formally queried, while one has been defaulted in line with established disciplinary procedures. She revealed that the complainant, identified as Devcharlezen, reported to the command and provided details that assisted the internal review process. The spokesperson commended the corps member for his courage in speaking truthfully about his experience.

The allegations stem from an incident that occurred at about 10.00 a.m. on Saturday while the victim was travelling from Ikeja to Epe. Devcharlezen alleged that officers from Ladegboye Police Station, Ikorodu, stopped his vehicle and, after verifying his documents, questioned him about his tribe and state of origin.

"I presented my NYSC identification card, but the officers doubted its authenticity and instructed me to log into my NYSC portal for verification," he stated. He added that an officer seized his phone and searched his private messages without consent, later accusing him of internet fraud after seeing conversations with a colleague.

He claimed he was forced into a police vehicle and driven around for about three hours, repeatedly pressured to confess to fraud. He alleged that an officer demanded 1,000 dollars from his cryptocurrency account and threatened to transfer him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. "When I agreed to be taken to the EFCC, they refused and continued driving," he noted.

Devcharlezen further alleged that his girlfriend, who was driven separately in his car, had her phone confiscated. He claimed she later jumped from the moving vehicle out of fear and sustained bruises. He added that his car was returned with scratches and mechanical faults that were not present before the incident.

At the station, he was interrogated for about two hours. Following clarification over shared ATM card details used for debugging, officers verified his identity and released him. He alleged that his NYSC cap was discarded and his identity card torn during the encounter. He refused to write a statement indicating the matter had been settled, describing the experience as traumatic and humiliating.
