Lagos State University has dissociated itself from a flyer circulating on social media that promotes a purported "Official Sign Out Party" scheduled for Thursday, 19th June 2026 in Igboelerin, featuring the image of Vice Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, mni, NPOM.
The university disclosed in a statement that neither the Vice Chancellor nor the institution has any involvement, knowledge, or affiliation with the planning, execution, or sponsorship of the event. It stated that the use of the Vice Chancellor's photograph and name on the flyer was done without her approval.
Oluwayemisi Thomas Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, who signed the statement, informed members of the University community, particularly graduating students, parents, and the general public, that the event is not an official university programme and carries no endorsement or support from the institution.
The university stated that it strongly dissociates itself from the event and will not be held liable for any security breaches, financial losses, or adverse incidents that may arise from attending.
The flyer's circulation comes at a sensitive period for the Institution, with LASU's approved 2025/2026 academic calendar showing that grading and result uploads are scheduled to run from Monday, 22nd June, through early July, ahead of Senate consideration of results in mid July, and an end of session break expected to commence by 20th July.
Unauthorised events bearing the names or images of university officials have become a recurring concern across Nigerian tertiary institutions, particularly during periods tied to convocation, signing out, or end of session activities, when graduating students are often targeted with promotional flyers designed to suggest institutional backing. LASU's management has yet to disclose whether any action will be taken against those responsible for circulating the flyer, or whether the police have been notified of the unauthorised use of the Vice Chancellor's identity.
