Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, has issued a final warning to students against engaging in sign out activities on campus, reiterating that such practices remain banned under a directive first circulated during the 2024/2025 academic session.

Dr. Popoola J.O., Registrar of the Polytechnic, disclosed the warning in a memo addressed to all students and copied to the Rector, the Dean of Student Affairs, Deans of Schools, the Students' Union Government, and all notice boards. The memo, dated 16th June, 2026, was titled "Final Warning Against The Breach Of Polytechnic Directive On The Ban Placed On Signing Out Activities."

According to the memo, management sought to remind students that signing out activities had already been banned in the Polytechnic, as stated in an earlier memo forwarded to all students during the 2024/2025 session.

The Registrar warned students against coming to campus or anywhere around the Polytechnic community wearing T shirts intended for signing out purposes. The memo described this as an "outlawed practice" and stressed that the only recognised event for celebrating graduation in the Polytechnic remains the Convocation Ceremony.

Dr. Popoola stated that any student found culpable of breaching the directive risked losing their studentship, pending the official disciplinary verdict of management.

The memo concluded by stressing that the information was for the compliance of all students, with copies forwarded to the Rector, the Dean of Student Affairs, Deans of Schools, the Students' Union Government, and all notice boards across the institution.

The renewed warning comes amid a wider pattern across Nigerian Tertiary institutions this year, with several other schools also moving to restrict end of session sign out celebrations among graduating students.
