The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, commended the Edo State Government for its significant investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, describing technical education as a critical pathway to technological advancement, wealth creation, and economic self reliance.
Dr. Mohammed made the commendation on Tuesday during an examination monitoring visit to Benin Technical College, Benin City, and Christlike School at the Internally Displaced Persons Camp, Uhogua, in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Uchechukwu Olisah, Assistant Director, Media and Protocol at NABTEB, disclosed this in a press statement made available to newsmen in Benin on Wednesday.
According to Olisah, the visits formed part of the ongoing monitoring exercise for the 2026 NABTEB May and June In School National Business Certificate and National Technical Certificate examinations. The Registrar called on governments at all levels, private organisations, and other stakeholders to invest more in technical and vocational education to ensure sustainable technological and economic development.
At Benin Technical College, where he was received by Principal Elder Friday Izedonmwen and Mrs. Stella Ogbeide of the Edo State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Dr. Mohammed urged students to embrace technical education as a practical solution to unemployment, poverty, restiveness, and underdevelopment. He encouraged the institution to key into the National Skills Qualification framework, noting that the programme offers learners career progression and international recognition.
Following a tour of departments including Automobile Technology, Welding and Fabrication, Carpentry and Joinery, and Catering, Dr. Mohammed again praised Edo State's investment while noting more could be done to position the college among the country's leading technical institutions.
At Christlike School, IDP Camp Uhogua, received by Principal Mrs. Victoria Uche and examination supervisor Mr. Peace Alihe, the Registrar encouraged candidates to remain focused and assured them that NABTEB certificates hold immense value, noting that artisans and technicians command attractive earnings, particularly in developed economies.
