Gbolahan Yishawu, the representative for Eti-Osa II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has praised President Bola Tinubu's "positive impact on education, skills acquisition, and small-business development."
Yishawu gave a speech at the GOY Digital Skills Hub and GOY Women's Vocational Centre graduation. He commended the Federal Government's efforts to empower young people and increase access to postsecondary education.
He claims that by offering students monthly stipends and fee support, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which is the vehicle for the administration's education reforms, has expanded access to higher education.
He described it as an important step in ensuring that all young people have unrestricted access to higher education and said that over a million students in 322 institutions are benefiting from it.
In addition, Yishawu mentioned the Federal Government's assistance for microbusiness owners and vocational graduates, such as caterers, hairdressers, fashion designers, and soap manufacturers.
According to him, the assistance is provided through access to financing, business advisory services, certification, and training.
The lawmaker pointed out that new tax reforms benefit SMEs, pointing out that businesses with yearly sales under N100 million are exempt from paying taxes, which allows them to grow and reinvest.
Speaking to recent graduates in digital disciplines like UI/UX, cybersecurity, digital marketing, data analytics, and graphic design, Yishawu characterised the current era as an exciting time to enter the digital economy.
Through initiatives like the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, which aims to train Nigerians and connect them to remote work opportunities around the world, he mentioned the Federal Government's investment in digital talent.
He also mentioned the advanced training, business support, and funding that digital startups and freelancers can receive from organisations like the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the National Youth Investment Fund, the Bank of Industry, SMEDAN, and NIRSAL Microfinance Bank.
Yishawu emphasised that the reform process calls for patience, bravery, and shared responsibility, and he urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to stay united and supportive of the government.
He called for continued faith and involvement to guarantee the continuation and full implementation of the reforms under President Tinubu's direction, saying, "The decisions being taken today are laying the foundation for a stronger economy, better opportunities for our youths, support for small businesses, and a more prosperous future for our country."
