Two of Nigeria's foremost public examination bodies have formalised a collaborative framework aimed at improving coordination across the country's assessment system, with the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) jointly inaugurating a technical committee to harmonise their operations.
Details of the development were contained in a statement released on Friday by NABTEB spokesperson Uchechukwu Olisah, who disclosed that the initiative emerged from a meeting between NABTEB Registrar Aminu Mohammed and NECO Registrar Dantani Wushishi at NECO's headquarters in Minna, Niger State. Both registrars convened with their respective management teams to deliberate on advancing shared examination administration objectives.
Mohammed underscored the necessity of synergy amongst examination bodies, positioning institutional collaboration as an essential driver of national development. He advocated for expanded coordination that would incorporate the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), while recognising that each body retains its own operational mandate.
Wushishi characterised the meeting as a pivotal moment for both institutions, noting that NABTEB's visit reflected commendable goodwill and that NECO remained enthusiastic about building a more productive working relationship going forward.
The inauguration produced a ten member technical committee drawing five representatives from each organisation. The committee bears responsibility for developing operational frameworks, aligning institutional strategies, and presenting implementation recommendations to the chief executives of both bodies.
