The National Open University of Nigeria has completed arrangements to disburse ₦13,780,250.00 to 90 students who applied for financial support under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund scheme.
Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, Vice Chancellor of NOUN, approved the funds to be credited directly to beneficiaries' eWallet accounts following a formal request from the university's Registrar.
Mr Oladipo Ajayi, Registrar of the university, submitted the request through an internal memo dated 27th February 2026, seeking clearance for the disbursement to students who had successfully applied for the loan.
The memo stated that the Vice Chancellor was respectfully asked to approve and instruct the Bursar to disburse the specified amount to the respective eWallets of the 90 students listed in the attached document, who had applied for the loan.
Following this request, Professor Uduma approved the disbursement, enabling the funds to be transferred to students' accounts under the NELFUND scheme.
The development provides financial relief to NOUN students who qualify for the federal government's education loan programme designed to support tertiary institution students facing financial challenges in funding their education.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund exemplifies the federal government's initiative to expand access to higher education by eliminating financial barriers that hinder qualified students from completing their studies.
NOUN, employing a distance learning system and serving thousands nationwide, strives to ensure its students' access to federal government support programmes, including the education loan scheme.
Disbursing funds to eWallets gives students immediate access without physical banking, offering flexibility in managing educational expenses.
The approval demonstrates the university administration's commitment to facilitating access to available federal support schemes for students, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent learners from completing their studies at the institution.
