The National Examinations Council has confirmed plans to engage 22,000 supervisors for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination Internal, while alerting the public to fraudulent websites collecting payments from teachers seeking to apply.

NECO's Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, warning that the council does not charge any fees for supervisor recruitment and has no affiliation with third party portals requesting payment before accepting academic credentials.

"NECO wishes to inform the public that the Council does not request any payment from teachers applying to serve as examination supervisors in the forthcoming 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal," the statement read.

The council noted that it had identified fraudulent portals posing as official recruitment platforms and urged teachers to apply exclusively through NECO's verified website.

Sani revealed that the recruitment process has been fully digitised following recommendations by the Ministerial Committee on the Improvement of Quality of Examination in Nigeria, replacing the manual system previously in use.

Under the new framework, all eligible and pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above, aged 30 years and above, qualify to apply. The process is fully automated and excludes third party agents entirely.

"This new recruitment system will prevent fraud in the recruitment of supervisors, curb examination malpractice, and enhance fairness and credibility in the recruitment process," Sani stated.

NECO confirmed that the 22,000 supervisors will be deployed nationwide to support the smooth conduct of the examination, which is scheduled to commence on 15 June 2026.

The council's decision to digitise supervision recruitment forms part of broader reforms targeting integrity in Nigeria's public examination system, with officials linking the previous manual approach to vulnerabilities that enabled misconduct and exploitation of applicants.

Teachers interested in participating are advised to verify the official portal address directly from NECO's authenticated communication channels before submitting any application or personal information.
