A formally validated list of accredited private universities and higher academic institutions in the Niger Republic has been handed over to the Nigeria Niger Joint Commission, in a move aimed at strengthening cross border academic recognition between the two countries.
The submission followed a directive by the Niger Republic's Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Professor Mamadou Saidou, who instructed the forwarding of the list to Ambassador Musa S. Mamman, Secretary General of the Nigeria Niger Joint Commission, during a formal meeting at the minister's office.
The list was compiled and validated by the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Research, described as the sole authorised national regulatory body responsible for evaluation, quality assurance, and accreditation of higher education in the Niger Republic. Authorities stressed that any list outside this verified submission should be regarded as inaccurate, misleading, and unauthorised.
The Commission subsequently addressed a letter to Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, requesting that the list be circulated to all relevant ministries, departments, and agencies. "It would be highly appreciated if the attached list can be transmitted to all the relevant MDAs in Nigeria, such as the Federal Ministry of Education, National Universities Commission, National Youth Service Corps, Council of Legal Education, Medical Council of Nigeria, etc., for information and records," the correspondence read.
The Agency's position as the sole accrediting authority is reinforced by the Declaration of Addis Ababa of 2008, which recognises the Niger Quality Assurance Agency as the only body empowered to validate and recognise academic certificates within and outside the Niger Republic. Institutions not appearing on the officially submitted list are not to be considered accredited or recognised under any official framework.
The development establishes the Commission endorsed list as the definitive reference for Nigerian institutions and agencies involved in the verification of academic certificates from the Niger Republic.
