Nigerian students who completed secondary school but are yet to secure university admission can now apply for a fully funded Foundation Certificate in Applied Health at King's College London, with applications closing on 25 June 2026 and the programme set to begin on 14 September 2026.

The opportunity is being offered through the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education at King's College London, which announced the programme at the weekend. It is designed to bridge the gap between secondary school completion and university entry for talented young Nigerians who meet the academic requirements.

Eligible applicants must hold WAEC or NECO grades of C6 and above in relevant subjects. The one-year programme is delivered entirely online, optimised for mobile devices and built for low data consumption, making it accessible to students across all parts of Nigeria.

"For many Nigerian students with WAEC or NECO grades of C6 or above, the gap between secondary school and university is one of cost and opportunity rather than ability. The Foundation Certificate in Applied Health has been built to close that gap, combining academically rigorous teaching from King's College London with the flexibility of mobile, low data online study so that geography, finances or family circumstances need not stand in the way of a young person's ambitions," the Centre stated.

Successful applicants will receive full scholarships covering tuition fees and will study eight core modules: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Data Analysis, English for Scientific and Academic Purposes, Applied Critical Thinking and Applied Health Sciences.

The programme concludes with a capstone project requiring participants to address a real health challenge within their communities.

The Centre noted that applicants experiencing financial hardship, displacement or significant caregiving responsibilities are particularly encouraged to apply, with selection based on academic potential and evidence of community engagement.

Beyond academic content, participants will also receive training in digital skills, employability and entrepreneurship to strengthen their prospects for further education and careers.

Graduates of the Foundation Certificate are expected to be well positioned for undergraduate studies, diploma programmes, health related careers and further professional training.
