A Federal University Dutse professor has secured a N25 million grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund National Research Fund scheme for a research project targeting banditry and kidnapping in Northern Nigeria through technology driven livelihood alternatives for pastoral communities.

Professor Ado Garba Jangargari of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development received the award for his research proposal titled "Tech for Peace: Engaging Northern Nigeria's Pastoralists in Non Agricultural Livelihoods to Counter Banditry and Kidnapping."

The project is designed to identify and develop technology based solutions that offer pastoralists in Northern Nigeria alternative sources of income, with the aim of reducing the economic conditions that drive recruitment into banditry and kidnapping networks across the region.

The university noted that the research aligns with TETFund's mandate of funding innovative, high impact studies that address Nigeria's most pressing developmental challenges through practical and evidence based approaches.

Members of the Federal University Dutse community have welcomed the grant, describing it as a milestone that reflects the Institution's expanding contribution to national development through research and knowledge generation.

Professor Jangargari is expected to begin implementation under the TETFund National Research Fund programme, which channels funding towards research capable of shaping public policy and resolving critical national issues.
