The Federal University of Technology, Minna has received regulatory approval to launch six new undergraduate programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session, following a successful resource assessment conducted by the National Universities Commission.

The NUC conveyed the approval in a letter signed on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M Girei. The approval followed an evaluation exercise carried out by a panel of NUC experts to assess the human and material resources available at the institution for the establishment of the proposed programmes.

The six newly approved full time programmes are B.Tech Artificial Intelligence, B.Tech Intelligence and Security Studies, B.Eng Nuclear Engineering, B.Tech Nuclear Science, B.Tech Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and B.Eng Mining Engineering. All programmes will be offered on a full time basis at the university's main campus.

The addition of these programmes reflects FUT Minna's expanding academic profile, particularly in emerging and specialised fields including artificial intelligence, nuclear science and engineering, and water and sanitation technology. The approval positions the institution to respond to growing national demand for technical expertise in these critical sectors.

The NUC's resource assessment process, which preceded the approval, evaluated whether the university had the requisite academic staff, infrastructure and institutional capacity to sustain the new programmes at the required standard before clearance was granted.

FUT Minna has in recent times recorded a series of academic expansion milestones, having also received approval to run medical programmes in collaboration with the Federal Medical Centre, Bida.
